When You Have the Motivation but Still Can’t Create: A Day in the Life of a Music-Making Homemaker

I woke up full of motivation

This morning, I felt ready.

“I’m going to make music today!”

I was excited and prepared to create a new track and upload it to Bandcamp.

But things didn’t go as planned.

Breakfast took longer than expected.

Then I found myself drifting through small tasks without real progress.

Just a quick break turned into a baseball game

My family turned on the TV.

The Dodgers game was on—and Roki Sasaki was pitching.

I told myself I’d just watch for a few minutes.

But of course, I ended up staying until the very end.

Before I realized, it was already lunchtime.

I rushed to make the meal, cleaned up, and somehow, the whole afternoon slipped away.

Then I suddenly remembered.

“Oh no, I have a note article scheduled for tomorrow morning!”

So once again, my music-making plans got pushed aside.

I wasn’t lazy—but I still felt bad

Looking back, I didn’t waste the day.

I cooked, cleaned, and spent time with my family.

But when the one thing I wanted to do didn’t happen, I felt disappointed in myself.

Recently, though, I’ve been trying to be more gentle.

Instead of judging myself for what I didn’t do, I focus on the intention I had.

Even small steps count

Whether it’s Bandcamp, blogging, or writing for note—

I truly want to keep creating.

But life doesn’t always follow my schedule.

Still, the part of me that wants to make something is very much alive.

That’s why I’m writing this post today.

Even if I didn’t make music, writing about my day is still a step forward.

For those of you who have days like this too

Sometimes we have the motivation, but life gets in the way.

Family, chores, distractions—they all take up space.

But that’s okay.

The desire to do something is still there, and that matters.

Let’s be kind to ourselves, and move forward at our own pace.

Thank you for reading.

Let’s keep going—slowly but surely.
